Dobro došli u Lorinu pričaonicu! Na ovom mestu razmenjivaćemo iskustva o tome kako se uči strani jezik i nadam se da će nam ti razgovori pomoći da što lakše "propričamo" na još jednom jeziku!

This is the blog I created to try to work with my students. I started it as a discussion forum about the topic "Is it hard to learn a foreign language?", and then continued with the posts about how to organize learning....Students commented on it, but, I realized that I have to be more persistent if I want things to work out.
I tried to make it kind of a journal and post about things interesting to me, such as the satirical article about how Novak Đoković owes his success to hard work (yes, my students would like to put no effort in learning) or how Spainair gladdened their passengers on Christmas.Well, I now see that I could have embed the video itself instead of posting a link! But, I managed to upload a video that my students made in a class.
I used my blog for posting links for grammar exercises or reading & listening practice. I even managed to post a survey about their learning habits. I tried to put a little humor in my blog (my husband made this and it made me laugh a lot, so I wanted to share it).
The only thing I couldn't do was to make my students be regular followers. But, now, with the new way of looking at things, I'll keep on "fighting"! :)
So, Bob, can I consider this covers tasks 9.3 (first part), 9.4, 9.5, since we cannot post on Blogs with learners forum? And, I couldn't vote on the best blog since the link doesn't work again (my vote goes to "5th graders and blogging").

  2. Hi Lora

Great stuff here (even if I can't understand most of it, lol).

Yes, this certainly covers the creating a blog task. I think it's great that you've varied the content and types of media you're using in the blog. I think that getting students involved in blogging can be a challenging task. Sometimes they take to a blog like a fish to water ... other times it's like leading a horse to water but not being able to make them drink. (so much for overkill on the water metaphors).

What do you all think would make students more prone to contribute to blogs?

The Blogs with Learners forum is now working properly, and I'm not sure where the poll went wrong for you ... others have been able to register their votes. Have another try at that one, if you could.

  3. Hi Lora,
I love the use of the video bar on the right hand side. How did you do that? And does "dobro dosli" mean: my name is...? I love learning phrases in other languages and this would be my first Serbian phrase.

I also loved "5th graders blogging" but it wasn't in the poll (why Bob?) and I think it gives lots of ideas on how to use blogs with learners and getting them involved. What I loved about it, was that it had a collection of interesting sites which students could link to apart from the nitty gritty assignments linked to the lessons ( even though these were also interesting and easy to create, at least the ones I saw) Of course Burcu is a very adept blogger but I'm sure we can make our blogs as interesting as hers for our students.

    1. If you want to add a video bar, go to dashboard, then layouts, and then click on ADD GADGETS.You have a lot of things to add.
"Dobro došli" means "Welcome". It says - Welcome to Lora's chatroom. In this place we are going to exchange experiences about how a foreign language is learned and I hope that those talks will help us start talking more easily in another language. Join me!
